Abstract

Analysis of the novel titled "Peter" by Risasaraswati. This analysis is constructed using a Structuralism approach. The theme revolves around the story of life after death and friendships across dimensions. This novel, "Peter," employs a mixed plot as it presents events occurring in the present, where Risa becomes more acquainted with Peter and showcases Peter's life during his lifetime with friends and relatives, as well as important events that shaped his character. The main character is named Risa, who has a protagonist nature, while the complex character is named Peter, and the supporting characters are Peter's ghost friends. The setting is one of the locations in West Java, and the time setting is during the colonial era. The perspective used is that of an all-knowing third person, with Risasaraswati as the author of the novel. The author employs a denotative style of language, using general or simple words in the writing. This research also utilizes a Formalist method. The study aims to conduct a Structural analysis to identify and evaluate the elements that drive the story, such as plot, character, setting, and point of view. The research findings indicate the intrinsic elements in the novel.
